And speaking of films I’d kill to see… He gets as much screen time as The Stones. I hope the same holds true in the feature.

Truly Nirvana! This seems like as much of a documentary about Marty making a documentary as it is about the Stones. First day, first show!

Mick to Keith: “You f*ck my wife?” Oh, my God! I’m laughing my ass off!!! When nuclear war hits, only two things will survive: cockroaches and Keith Richards. He’ll say, “I saw a bright light. I thought I was goin’ on.”

Oh, man…I wish I could be as excited as you guys, but this has the stench of PBS Baby Boomer fundraiser material. I love The Stones, you know, up until 1982 when they stopped mattering. Scorsese’s inclusion of himself as co-star could be really icky if all it amounts to is joshing with the band and crew. Gratutious shots of Bill Clinton and…a duet with Christina Aguilera??? I’ll certainly see it and I hope I’m wrong, but this looks more like “Let’s Spend the Night Together” than “The Last Waltz.”

Did you see the Dylan documentary? It was amazing, easily the best thing He’s directed this decade. I’ll argue that Dylan is even more irrelevant nowadays than the Stones, yet Marty’s portrait held me transfixed. In an odd way, when He moved away from film and documented another fanatic who has as much passion for music as Marty has for cinema, it became even more of a personal document. Much stronger than “A Personal Journey” and “Voyage to Italy,” and I love those films. I’m with John — first day, first show…unless there’s a press screening.

Holy cow! I didn’t realize that Marty’s documentaries have been better than his narratives over the last few years. What do you make of that?
