San Diego Latino Film Festival receives $20,000 grant
November 8th, 2009 by Scott Marks

Ethan Van Thillo, founder and executive director of the San Diego Latino Film Festival.
Buffy Shutt, Festival Grants Committee Chair of the Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced the recipients of the 2010 film festival grants.
Of the $450,000 awarded to 24 U.S. film festivals, $20,000 will go to the San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF).
Culture Cruncher caught up with an elated Ethan Van Thillo, founder and executive director of SDLFF.
“With corporate support being harder to come by this year,” Van Thillo said, “foundation support will be much more important and needed. Every year they have a process where film festivals can apply for grants. We’ve received support from them in the past. This is the third time. We’ve been very fortunate with the Academy.”
According to the Academy’s official press release, “While the grants are awarded for a variety of festival programs, organizers are encouraged to submit proposals intended to make festival events more accessible to the general public, provide greater access to minority and less visible filmmakers, and help strengthen the connection between filmmakers and the general public.”
The grant money will be used by the festival for “Cine Mujer,” a series celebrating women filmmakers. It consists of ten narrative features, four feature documentaries and ten shorts.
