Yesterday. the New York Daily News reported a decade long relationship between baseball superstar Roger Clemens and a then 15-year old Mindy McCready. Today the singer confirmed it.

“I cannot refute anything in the story,” said McCready, which the Daily News reports was tearing when she read them a prepared statement. “Yes, I have known Roger Clemens for a long time. He’s a kind and caring man. He’s also a legendary athlete. The central topic in the debate, however, regards his professional life, not his personal life. There are legal matters working their way through the system that have nothing to do with me. From my point of view, that is where the focus should remain.”

Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed a long-term relationship but told the newspaper it was not sexual.

“He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her,” Hardin said. “He’s considered her a close family friend. … He has never had a sexual relationship with her.”

Clemens was 28 and a married father of two when he first met McCready, the newspaper reported.

In its story Monday night, sources told the News that McCready went with Clemens to his hotel room in Fort Myers, Fla., after their first meeting but that they did not have sex. The relationship turned intimate after she later moved to Nashville and became a country star, the paper said.

Country & Western Mental Patient Mindy McCready Gets Early Release from Prison

January 1st, 2008 by Scott Marks

If a country and western singer appears on my radar it means one of two things: they either have a great publicist or they are such complete train wrecks that their notirious exploits grab my attention each week in the tabloids.

If Mindy McCready had solid representation, I doubt that anyone would be writing about a release from prison.

Admittedly, it all started because her name sounded like my favorite mental institution in upstate New York. On more than one occasion Howard Stern exalted the indispensability of the creepiest sounding nut house this side of Bedlam and my ears perk up any time something even remotely resembles it’s hallowed name. If anyone deserves to be in Creedmoor, it’s Mindy McCready.

The fascination was so strong that it led me to keep a record of her hellbent antics. The August 22, 2005 edition of The National Enquirer came through big time by reporting that Mindy’s botched suicide attempt yielded a two-and-a-half page note, that they were good enough to print in its entirety. Mindy continued to pine away for her ex-boyfriend, country wannabe Billy McKnight who broke into her home and proceeded to beat and choke her.

In October of 2005, The Globe reported that Mindy McCreedmoor was busted for trying to fill a forged prescription for OxyContin.

A Creedmoor-worthy November 2005 appearance on Larry King Live was all that I needed to set a mental McCready alert.

Identity theft, DUIs, a drug overdose, a suicide attempt, and parole violation all led to her sentencing earlier this year. Thank goodness for all the personal mishigas. Why else are people still talking about her? Being a C&W savant, by my estimation, the last time Mindy had a hit was in 1996.

Ms. McCreedmoor was released from a Tennessee jail earlier today after serving 3 months of a one year sentence for parole violation. As a condition of her release, MM must spend the next two years on probation. I my never have heard one second of her music, but I sure am a fan of the way she conducts her private life in public.
