Yesterday. the New York Daily News reported a decade long relationship between baseball superstar Roger Clemens and a then 15-year old Mindy McCready. Today the singer confirmed it.

“I cannot refute anything in the story,” said McCready, which the Daily News reports was tearing when she read them a prepared statement. “Yes, I have known Roger Clemens for a long time. He’s a kind and caring man. He’s also a legendary athlete. The central topic in the debate, however, regards his professional life, not his personal life. There are legal matters working their way through the system that have nothing to do with me. From my point of view, that is where the focus should remain.”

Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed a long-term relationship but told the newspaper it was not sexual.

“He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her,” Hardin said. “He’s considered her a close family friend. … He has never had a sexual relationship with her.”

Clemens was 28 and a married father of two when he first met McCready, the newspaper reported.

In its story Monday night, sources told the News that McCready went with Clemens to his hotel room in Fort Myers, Fla., after their first meeting but that they did not have sex. The relationship turned intimate after she later moved to Nashville and became a country star, the paper said.

Roger Clemens and Mindy McCready began relationship when “singer” was 15-years-old

Honest to God, when I saw “Clemens” listed as Mindy’s illicit lover in the headline I had to click to see who he was. A sports figure…no wonder the name failed to register.

Sports and country and western music combined? The worst of all worlds. Ooooooh!

Even though I have never heard Mindy sing, I’m fascinated by her trainwreck of a life. The National Enquirer (my talmud) is always reporting on her meshuggina antics and every one of her appearances on Larry King Live is solid gold. Besides, her last name sounds thisclose to “Creedmoor,” my mental institution of choice.

The wailing songbird began a decade-long affair with pitcher Roger Clemens when she was a 15-year-old aspiring singer performing in a karaoke bar. (The legal drinking age in Nashville is four.)

Weeeeeeeeellll doggies, they sure do start ‘em young in the deep south. Betcha’ Miss Mindy threw some mean spitballs herself!

According to the New York Daily News, “the revelations could torpedo claims of an unsullied character that are central to the defamation suit Clemens filed Jan. 6 against his former personal trainer Brian McNamee. Vivid details of the affair could surface in several media projects that McCready is involved with - including a documentary that begins filming today in Nashville, a new album and a reality show.”

A new documentary and a reality TV show? Let’s hope she gives Scorsese the play list ahead of time.

Clemens’ lawyer Rusty Hardin (sounds like a porno star) confirmed the relationship, but denied and sexual wrongdoing between his client and the underage warbler.

“He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her,” Hardin said. “He’s considered her a close family friend. … He has never had a sexual relationship with her.”

Then why is the media reporting it as an “affair”?

Clemens was pitching for the Boston Red Sox at the time and according to “a source with intimate knowledge of the relationship,” Mindy fell head-over-heels in love. She didn’t discover that Clemens was a married father of two until she took in a game and read Roger’s bio in the program book.

Hardin said Clemens’ wife Debbie knew McCready and that the singer had traveled on his plane.

Even though McCready severed ties with Clemens in 2006, the pitcher continued to look after her. As reported earlier on Emulsion Compulsion, Mindy got mixed up in identity theft, DUIs, a drug overdose, a suicide attempt, and parole violation. Clemens would frequently FedEx packages filled with cash to help pay her legal bills.

Our legislative branch of the government must not have anything better to do with their time than listen to a guy who throws balls for a living. With his wife seated behind him, Clemens addressed Congress on February 13. In his opening statement the pitcher said, “Anyone who has spent time around me knows that my family is and has always been my top priority. My wife, Debbie, and my sons - Koby, Kory, Kacy and Kody - mean more to me than anything in the world. Having said that, baseball has definitely provided me with significant opportunities off the field.”
