DALLAS, TX — Buddy Ebsen’s widow is selling some of the late Hollywood actor’s costumes from The Beverly Hillbillies at an upcoming auction in Dallas.

According to UPI, the Heritage Auction Galleries announced the items will be sold April 5 at a public auction and online.

Some of the items for sale include autographed, annotated scripts from Ebsen’s shows, The Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones. (This dreck was actually scripted?) There are also items dating back to his days as a vaudeville song-and-dance man.

“Among the interesting items consigned by his widow, Dorothy Ebsen, are the Tin Man’s boots Buddy wore early in the production of The Wizard of Oz. He had to drop out of the film because of a near-fatal lung infection from the metallic makeup he wore for the role,” Doug Norwine, Heritage’s Director of Music and Entertainment Auctions, said in a statement.

Ebsen’s contract for the pilot episode of The Beverly Hillbillies and his Jed Clampett hat, mustache and Sunday-go-to-meeting suit are among the items expected to hit the auction block.

Dig A Hole: Come and listen to a story ’bout a man named Jed, whose nephew Jethro’s girlfriend shot herself dead…

Chere Rhodes, 30, the live(d)-in girlfriend of former Beverly hillbilly Max Baer, Jr., 70, reportedly shot herself last Thursday and died several days later.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeelll doggies!

The suicide took place in Baer’s Lake Tahoe home. According to the Nevada Appeal, “At about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and Tahoe-Douglas paramedics responded to a report of an attempted suicide at Baer’s Zephyr Heights residence, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.”

Baer led the police to the master bedroom where they found Ms. Rhodes with a single gunshot to the chest from a semi-automatic handgun. A handwritten note, citing relationship problems, was found at the scene. (Her kinfolk said, “Chere, move away from there!”)

A CALSTAR helicopter flew transported Ms. Rhodes to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where she underwent trauma care and subsequently was put on life support. Her family removed her from life support Sunday.

Originally, investigators suspected the work of Jane Hathaway who for years was quite vocal about her unrequited love for the strapping hick. Miss Jane was released after questioning. A Douglas County news release stated, “No foul play is suspected at this time.”

Baer, son of boxing legend Max Baer, has been a Lake Tahoe for years. He’s currently trying to build a hotel-casino in northern Douglas County that would be patterned after the 60s sitcom. You must study this website carefully!

Listening to Baer’s appearances on The Howard Stern Show one was given the impression of pure sleaze: a low rent Bob Guccione. Give it a little time. I can almost guarantee that you’ll be hearing stories that would make Granny lose her vittles.
