Initial reaction to Francis Ford Coppola’s YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH
November 29th, 2007 by Scott Marks

Being bound by honor not to review the film before it opens, I don’t think I’ll be taking any vino off of Francis’ dining room table by giving a flash reaction.
Midway through the screening, Lori Saxon, half of San Diego cinema’s equivalent of Nick & Nora Charles, turned to her “better” half Fred and asked, “Where is this going?”
“I think we already passed it,” was Fred’s response.
My sentiments exactly.

Sony releases images from Francis Ford Coppola’s long awaited YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH
October 28th, 2007 by Scott Marks

Since when did Coppola become Kubrick?
It’s been ten L-O-N-G years since Francis gifted us with one of his offerings and while The Rainmaker is a safe distance from The Conversation, it is still a well made, very entertaining picture.
I know very little about the plot of Youth Without Youth and intend to keep it that way until the screening. As sumptuous as they are, the stills have a Meet Joe Black look to them that’s giving me the heebie jeebies.
On the upside, there is a Nazi in the woodpile!
Let’s hope that Francis spent the decade building up to this instead of smoking pot and lapping up vino. His laurels are rested enough, we need a great Coppola film!
Youth Without Youth opens December 14.
